Ecological considerations for construction projects

The use of Saint-Astier® NHL limes and mortars not only ensures a considerable re-absorption of CO2 but also improves the overall environmental quality of a building. Living conditions are improved thanks to the breathable properties of the mortars: the damaging consequences of the accumulation of condensation and damp are reduced, the air is more pleasant and of better quality and the dwelling itself more energy efficient. Also, building materials can be easily re-cycled, contrary to when hard cement based mortars are used.

Saint-Astier® products are not toxic; they do not contain Fly Ash, heavy metals or other potentially polluting components nor does their alkalinity encourage organic growth. In restoration work, the chemical composition of these mortars is compatible with the existing mortar. It will not introduce potentially damaging components into the building fabric which, in time, will cause the deterioration of mortar joints and consequent moisture penetration.

The durability of these mortars is proven by a track record of over 150 years. If correctly applied, no further energy (and money) will have to be spent in carrying out repairs or major interventions for a very long time.
