Cavity wall, stone wall and cladding

Building walls with lime based mortars especially formulated for high elasticity and workability, good breathability and low capillarity is the way to provide a better living environment. Furthermore, these mortars add a more appealing and warmer visual aspect to the building.

Solid or lightweight cement block constructions bedded in cement mortars allow virtually no air to pass through the wall. Hard cement renders and modern interior plasters are not air permeable either. Consequently, any moisture will accumulate bringing risks of condensation and damp.

By building with clay blocks and breathable renders/plasters these problems are eliminated but conditions can be improved if cement units are built with mortars that allow air circulation. This also applies to cavity walls with brick outer skin when built with lime based mortars.
